Keegan on Cup Fever

5 December 2014

Midfield man wants to kick on in to next round.

Paul Keegan has highlighted that standards are high in the Doncaster Rovers camp ahead of Saturday’s trip to Oldham Athletic in the second round of the FA Cup.

Rovers lost to the Latics earlier on in the season and Keegan, who was part of the side which lost to Athletic at the same stage of the competition just two years ago, says Paul Dickov’s side have been made to pay for lapses.

“Us going to Barnsley and being disappointed with a point shows how high we set our standards,” the Irishman said.

“We have had the odd lapse in concentrations and been punished and we need to cut that out.

“Little details need sharpening up on and everybody knows that we need to get those details right because we’ve got a very good squad here and we just need to get on top of it.”

In the league, Oldham have shot up to sixth in the table and are genuine play off contenders thanks to the goals of former Rovers striker Jonathan Forte.

Forte has scored 13 goals this term, but didn’t score in the previous round; a 1-0 home win over Leyton Orient.

“We’re doing okay; I don’t think anyone’s getting too carried away. We wish we could turn the draws in to wins but we're playing some good stuff at times,” Keegan continued.

“We’ve had to blend new players and we've dropped down to a league with a different style of football.

“You've got to be prepared to battle before you start playing football and some teams will try and beat you up a little bit.”
