PREVIEW: Latics v ROVERS

6 December 2014

Saturday 6th December 2014 (3pm), SportsDirect.com Park, FA Cup 2nd Round.

Paul Dickov returns to Oldham Athletic – the Club he once managed – for the first time since departing.

The Scot left Boundary Park in February 2013 and was appointed Rovers manager just three months later.

Having lost to the Latics earlier in the season – Lee Johnson’s side triumphing 2-0 at the Keepmoat in Sky Bet League One – Dickov will hope to rediscover his magical touch which saw Athletic overthrow Liverpool in the FA Cup just two seasons ago.

Included in that run was a 3-1 victory over Dean Saunders’ promotion chasing Doncaster – at Boundary Park – in the second round.

Though Robbie Blake put the visitors ahead early on, Reece Wabara scored his first ever senior goal to level, just before the interval.

In the second half, Matt Derbyshire’s quickfire double sealed the tie and put Dickov’s men – captained by Dean Furman – in the hat for the next round.

Rovers’ FA Cup escapades in recent years have not given anything to write home about. Since moving to the Keepmoat Stadium in 2007, the South Yorkshire side have won just four FA Cup ties, home or away – against Cheltenham, Brentford, Bradford Park Avenue and Weston Super Mare.
