Paul Dickov speaks about Rob Jones

7 February 2014

Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov spoke to the official website about club captain Rob Jones and his injury progress.

How is Rob Jones coming along, because obviously he was due to play on Wednesday wasn’t he? What’s going to go on with him now?

“Its unfortunate because with the game against Port Vale called off on Wednesday, we could not get a run out for him. Rob needs to get a good 90 minutes in him for his own benefit and his own piece of mind to know that he’s fine before he can join up with us fully. He is training well, he’s chomping at the bit but we just need to be careful with him not rush him back too soon and make sure he gets that 90 minutes under his belt, so we are actively trying to arrange another game for him next week.”

It must be nice not to have to rush him back with the defence playing well at the moment?

That’s the other thing, with the players that have come in and the way the back four, back six, back 10, are defending at the minute and keeping clean sheets, that there is not that need to rush him back. Possibly with the injury he had it would have been difficult to rush him back anyway, it's not just getting him back for a game, but making sure it does not make it worse or cause damage.  It was a serious injury to the discs and nerves in his neck so you’ve got to make sure that he’s right before you throw him back into the mix.”
