Doncaster Rovers 2 Barnsley 2
Referee - Mr Andy D'Urso
Attendance - 10,216 (2,894 visitors)
After overnight and morning rain the afternoon turned out fine if cold. Rovers made one change, loan signing Jordan Bowery replacing the suspended Billy Sharp.
A minutes applause was rendered in memory of Sir Tom Finney, who had died at the age of 91.
Rovers defended the North Stand end in the first half, with Barnsley kicking off.
The visitors went on the attack from the kick off and spent the early minutes in the Rovers half but they didn't trouble Johnstone.
Rovers got their game going and won a corner in the 8th minute, which came out of the Barnsley defence to Coppinger on the edge of the penalty area. His first time shot was deflected for another corner, which was headed over by Meite.
Rovers had the better possession for the next ten minutes when Barnsley won a corner, which was eventually cleared.
Again Rovers made the running mainly in midfield but found themselves a goal down in the 27th minute when a headed backpass bounced in front of Johnstone and over him leaving PROSCHWITZ the easy task of tapping into the net.
Doncaster hit back and won a corner, following which Husband was clearly brought down but the referee, stood a yard away, decreed no penalty. Minutes later and Keegan fired over the bar from 25 yards.
At the other end a corner to Barnsley was headed into the net but the referee had blown for a foul.
Rovers piled on the pressure but hadn't had a clear chance at goal until the 45th minute when a cross from Duffy on the left to the far post was dropped by Steele after colliding with Cranie and COPPINGER took full advantage to shoot into the empty net for an equaliser.
Half Time - Doncaster Rovers 1 Barnsley 1
Rovers made a bright start to the second half and in the 51st minute Duffy took a free kick from 30 yards to the right of goal that was going under the bar but Steele got to it to tip over the bar.
Minutes later, Duffy played a short corner and from the return cut in but his left foot drive was saved.
Then, in the 55th minute, a good move on the Rovers left ended with Brown feeding COPPINGER, who hit a left footer into the bottom corner of the net.
Barnsley hit back by bringing O'Brien on. In the 58th minute Proschwitz received the ball 25yards out but his excellent drive was tipped over the bar by Johnstone. Minutes later and former Rover, Martin Woods fired wide from 30 yards.
In the 68th minute, O'Brien for Barnsley crossed from the left touchline for Proschwitz to head in from close range but Johnstone, diving to his left, palmed it out for a corner from which Ramage hit the bar.
Successive corners to Barnsley in the 71st minute came to nothing. Then a free kick by Duffy on the left was met at the near post by the onrushing Brown but he headed over the bar.
Barnsley were having their best spell of the game and Hunt fired wide from 25yards as time began to run out. They got their reward in the 89th minute when a low cross from the right byline was slammed in by PROSCHWITZ from close range.
Into added time and a good move between Duffy and Husband down the Rovers left set Husband off on a run at goal but he put his shot across the goal and out the other side. They pressed for a winner and Duffy had a twenty five yarder saved but the referee blew time on a two-all draw,
