Doncaster Rovers have teamed up with local County FA accredited referees for what promises to be a winning partnership.
Rovers are working with the Doncaster-based referees from the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA as part of the Referee’s Retention scheme, which was introduced to say thank you to all referees in the region who register on time.
The agreement with DRFC sees tickets to designated midweek games being circulated to local referees. This month the refs will be able to secure a free ticket to the Rovers game against Charlton Athletic at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday 28 January.
Gavin Baldwin, Chief Executive of Doncaster Rovers, said: “We are delighted to be supporting football at grass roots level. Our local referees do a fantastic job for football across the Borough and it is a pleasure to be able to give something back and support them in this way.
“I know that Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA are regularly recruiting for new referees to join them and I hope that our ticket initiative provides an extra incentive to sign up.”
Craig Grundy, Referees Development Officer at the County FA said: “The retention of our referees is really important. As their Saturday’s and Sunday’s are usually spent refereeing, they don’t often get the chance to see their peers at a higher level.
“Often a thankless task, refereeing is an essential part of football and it is important to reward our referees where possible.
“We are very grateful for the support and help of Doncaster Rovers and all our pro clubs as it means our referees can meet colleagues and watch the appointed officials at the game.”
