PD: "I'm disgusted"

4 January 2014

Doncaster manager Paul Dickov speaks to Rovers Player after the 2-3 home defeat to Stevenage.

"I'm disgusted with that performance, we put a team out that we felt should have won the game, we didn't look to pass the ball, we didn't look to close down and press like we normally do and I usually back the players all the way and come out and defend them after that because it was poor.

"The last thing I said to the players before they went out is that in cup games its the team that wants it the most and the most disappointing thing they looked as if they wanted it more today and that is something I will sort out.

"They worked harder than us and they won the game and the one thing you have to do in every game is go out there and give everything you have got and then start playing from there, whether it was because it was Stevenage and they were bottom of League One, maybe that crept into it a little bit, but we prepared them well and now no player in there can say they have not had a chance with me in there and it is something that is going to have to change.

"You should have the same mentality every game you play and at the minute we are struggling to keep our standards high, mentally more than anything else.  People can talk about fitness, tactics and techniques  but if you're not mentally strong enough to keep your standards high every week then you are going to struggle and we have seen that throughout the season and now the time has come for me to make a few changes.

"Every defeat hurts me but I know what the FA Cup means to the fans, to the club and myself and to go out the way we have done today has really disappointed me."
