Gavin Baldwin answers fans concerns about transfer window
Doncaster Rovers official website caught up with Chief Executive, Gavin Baldwin, about the transfer window and some of our fans most frequent questions on social media this week.
Should we expect to see any business this January?
The owners of the club are in constant communication with both myself and Paul Dickov regarding the transfer window. Paul has suggested a list of players that he feels will strengthen the team and he is working hard behind the scenes to secure those names. The owners met in December and made funds available for 2 new signings during this window. Any monies received from transfers out will also be put straight back into the playing budget for Paul to use.
We have already conducted some business on top of this, with the renewal of Enda Stevens loan for a further month. However as Paul has stated in his previous interviews, it’s not just a case of saying we want that player and getting him, all clubs are reviewing their squads and sometimes the availability of a player isn’t instant. Paul is keen to consider both short and long term transfer targets during this window.
What about Richie Wellens?
Paul has expressed a desire to keep Richie and the owners have backed him. After long discussions with the player over a period of time we’ve offered Richie a contract, it’s fair to say that the length of the contract could be considered long term for a player of his age and beyond the usual length we offer to a player over 32. We’re hopeful he will sign. Richie keeps saying he wants to stay and we’ve offered a deal beyond our usual parameters, based purely on his performances this season and Paul’s regularly repeated his admiration of him, so ultimately everything we can do has been done.
