Gerrard "keeping" close eye on trialists.

18 July 2014

GK coach Paul Gerrard explains how some potential new recruits have been getting on.

Paul Gerrard has expressed his happiness at how Jamie Ashdown and Ben Williams have performed in their respective trials with the Club.

Ashdown and Williams both played a half each in Rovers' 2-0 DEFEAT TO LINCOLN CITY before jetting off to Rovers’ pre-season training camp in Portugal from where the goalkeeping coach spoke to www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk.

“They’ve both done really well. I’ve only had them for a week and their attitudes are first class, they’re top lads to work with and that’s important for me,” he said.

“Goalkeepers are a group, tight knit, and everyone needs to get on. They’ve worked hard and given 100% in training and games so we'll just take it day by day and see how it goes.”

Rovers are yet to replace last season’s ‘keepers Sam Johnstone and Ross Turnbull – both of whom are in Paul Dickov’s thoughts – but Gerrard has confidence in the pedigree of Ashdown and Williams.

“They’re doing really well, worked hard, getting a bit of everything including small sided games and the game against Huddersfield.

“Overall, it's been really good. All the staff are pleased,” he said.
