Rob Relishing Potential Return

21 July 2014

Jones eyeing up comeback as Rovers travel to the seaside for pre-season.

Having returned to these shores following their pre-season camp in Portugal, Rovers face Grimsby Town tomorrow evening (7pm).

For defender Rob Jones, who spent two seasons at Blundell Park, the chance of a return to action is one that is hopefully nearing ever closer.

“I’ve still got a little way to go but it’s great for me to train,” he said.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve trained, when you’re a footballer who’s injured it’s a lonely world with few people to turn to and you get depressed watching them train.”

Jones, 34, made 68 appearances for the Mariners between 2004-2006 before moving north of the border for a spell with Hibernian and he has no plans to hang up his boots just yet.

“We'll see where I go from here but I think I’m helping in other ways so that takes my mind off not being able to play, which drives me crazy.

“I’ve got other things which occupy my mind, the be all and end all is to get on the pitch and play and hopefully that won’t be too far away.”
