Dickov on Watford test

10 March 2014

Rovers manager Paul Dickov wants his side to build on Saturday’s performance when Watford visit the Keepmoat on Tuesday night.

Currently unbeaten in the league at home in 2014, Rovers go into tomorrow night’s fixture on the back of a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield and Dickov wants to see more of the same.

He said: “We know our home form is good; we’ve beaten a lot of good teams at home and Watford tomorrow night are another good team.

“For whatever reason, we seem to get our best performances against these top sides.

“We do have to address our away form but if we can build on Saturday’s performance tomorrow night then it gives us a good chance of pulling away again.”

On Watford, Dickov believes that a similar showing will be needed if his side are to get anything from the game as he is aware of the visitors’ strengths.

He added: “Without the ball we’ll need to do the same again; we’ll have to keep a good shape.

“If we keep our discipline without the ball I feel we can beat any team.”

In the reverse fixture, Watford took the spoils in a 2-1 victory earlier in the season and Dickov is expecting just as tough a test when they come to Doncaster on Tuesday.

He said: “The new manager has come in since that game and whilst they might not be as free flowing attacking wise, he’s got them working well defensively which is just as important as attacking.

“It’s a crazy league where results seem to get crazier every week.

“We know we can’t go into the game thinking it will be easy tomorrow night because Watford are a top team.”
