Two more names added to Eve Merton Charity Game (6pm kick off)

The Charity Legends Football match will raise money for Doncaster Cancer charity, The Eve Merton Dreams Trust. The event will also include ex-pro’s such as Peter Beagrie, Liverpool legend Alan Kennedy, Lee Hendrie, Bruce Dyer, Phil Babb, Carlton Palmer and Rovers legends Colin Douglas and Rufus Brevett.

DES WALKER - Ex England International and star of Italia ‘90, Walker, will take to the football pitch once more, 10 years after officially retiring. Having been given his debut by the late Brian Clough who was trying to build a second great side after his ageing European Cup winning team broke up, Walker went on to win 59 England caps and make 660 top flight appearances at Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday & Sampdoria. During this time his solid defensive performances would famously have fans chanting, “You’ll Never Beat Des Walker!”

BRIAN STOCK - Stock joined Doncaster Rovers in on a full time deal in 2007 after playing 15 games on loan from Preston the previous season. Rovers paid a club record fee at the time of £150,000 for his services. Stock had played previously under Sean O’Driscoll at Bournemouth so was familiar with the manager’s style of play and quickly became a fans favourite with the Rovers faithful. The midfield quartet of Oster, Wellens, Woods and Stock was quoted as ‘one of the best in the League’ many a fan would agree that, on their day, this accolade rang true.
Stock scored some important goals in his time at the Keepmoat, his most memorable goal was at Elland Road when he scored a free kick to give Rovers a 1-0 victory against Leeds United. In the same season the same teams met at Wembley and again Rovers were victorious, a James Hayter header giving Doncaster Rovers a 1-0 victory and promotion to the Championship.

The family fun day starts at 16:00 and tickets are available on the gate for just £5 Adult, £3 Child with a £10 Family ticket available (2 adults, 2 children). Family friendly activities will be taking place outside the stadium and a great display of Legends football inside.
