Ray Dunning: A final word

23 May 2014

Doncaster Rovers and the Dunning family would like to thank the supporters who have paid tribute to the life of Ray Dunning.

The sentiments, which have come from far and wide – either in person or otherwise – have been very touching and moved many connected with the Club and the Dunning family.

Mr Dunning passed away at the fixture between Leicester City and Doncaster Rovers on 3rd May 2014.

The Club would also like to go on record by stating our thanks to all associated with Leicester City Football Club, whose condolences were perhaps epitomised by the much appreciated words of their Chief Executive, Susan Whelan who wrote to the club to say, “It was with even greater sadness that we learnt of the awful news then, that Ray Dunning had passed away.  It really puts life into perspective. You never think that someone heading off to spend an afternoon watching a sport they love just doesn’t come home that night.

“I sincerely hope that you have a tremendous season next year, and are back in the championship again in 2015.”

Tributes laid at the Keepmoat Stadium memorial gates will be taken down in due course at the discretion of the Dunning family.

People who wish to contribute to the Ray Dunning Scholarship Fund can still do so at the Keepmoat Stadium ticket office.
