Gaffer fired up for local clash and says it should "get everyone going" too.
Paul Dickov has called upon Rovers fans to vent their frustrations of last week’s FA Cup postponement when Sheffield United come to town at the weekend.Rovers saw their first round tie with Weston super Mare called off by the referee just twenty minutes prior to kick off, which has led to somewhat of a fixture backlog for the Keepmoat side.
“They’ll be brilliant, they always are home and away and we know if we give them something to shout about then we won’t go far wrong,” he said.
“You hope and expect that this game is the type to get everyone going and we expect a feisty affair like we got at Bradford.
“Whenever we’ve been well supported at home, it’s brought our best performances. It will be a tough game because, although they [Sheffield United] haven’t won in three games, their performances have been good and we’re looking forward to it.”
Dickov revealed how he had pulled a few strings with some important footballing figures to give Rovers the best chance against their local rivals, with a near full compliment of players.
“Sam [Johnstone] has been here all week and will play Saturday and I’ve been on record as thanking Gareth Southgate for that and Luke [McCullough] is pencilled in for a flight to come back from Romania on Saturday morning,” said the Scot.
“It will be a case of whether he plays or not and how he feels when he gets back. If he’s not playing [for Northern Ireland] there’s a good chance he could feature.
“You’d like to keep the same side every week but with at least eleven games in six weeks, it will be virtually impossible. The last two performances have been good and we want to build on that and become more consistent.”
