Dickov Delighted at Johnstone Loan

Gaffer gives his opinion on goalkeeper situation.

Paul Dickov proclaimed that the acquisition of England under 21 and Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was a “massive coup.”

In an exclusive interview with www.doncasterroversfc.co.uk, the Doncaster Rovers manager said: “We’re delighted. Sam came in last year was outstanding for us and for the club its a massive coup so I’ve got to thank Manchester United for letting us have him and Sam for coming back.

“He’s got a massive future ahead of him if he progressing and he felt that he progressed here last year which was a big factor in him coming back.”

Rovers held off stiff competition from other rival clubs competing for the youngster’s signature and Dickov put it down to the environment around the club and the Keepmoat Stadium.

“We did [have competition] and I wouldn’t say I was surprised but there was a lot of good will from Manchester United and Sam to come back. He knows the place, the fans love him and so do the players and it’s a good fit for him,” said the Scot.

“Sam knows what he's going to get with us; he improved under Paul [Gerrard] and knows what I’m like as a manager.”
