Dickov Roused by Rovers Reaction

Manager airs his views on derby day delight.

Paul Dickov was quick to praise the reaction of his side following Rovers’ 2-1 victory over Scunthorpe United, a week after losing 3-0 to Walsall.

Addressing the media in the aftermath of the game, the Doncaster Rovers manager said: “It’s been – rightly – thrown at us that when we go behind we can’t get back in the game and it’s something we’ve spoken about at length and the reaction I received from my players was outstanding.

“I thought some of the football we played at times – attacking wise in terms of passing, movement, bodies forward and getting crosses in the box and shots off – overall was a delight. We’ve had lots of fans here and it’s important to send the fans home with three points.

“We wanted a reaction and it was a derby game. I keep stressing that its early doors and the longer the season goes on, the stronger we’ll be and I can’t speak highly enough of my lads but we wanted to go in to the international break on the back of a league win.”

The result propelled Rovers to 13th after an indifferent start to the season, something Dickov was keen to lay to rest.

“We weren’t in a false position because we follow up good performances with bad ones and we need to be more consistent but like I say if the work rate and application is good, the results go hand in hand,” he said.

“If you get the performance right with and without the ball, especially, if you have that we know our attitude, application and work rate has to be up there. If we do then the Coppingers, Forresters etc. can win us games.”
