North East Youth Alliance League

A confident performance from Paul Stancliffe’s side saw Doncaster Under 18’s defeat Lincoln City in the North East Youth Alliance League.

Rovers started strongly and the first chance of the match came just one minute in, as Aron Gordon linked up well with Jack McKay to put the striker through on goal. Unfortunately his first time shot went narrowly over the crossbar.

Lincoln almost took the lead as Kieran Helspown was on the end of a good ball into the Rovers box, but his header found the side netting.

A quarter of an hour in Davies found space down the right flank to deliver a good ball into the box, and his cross was headed home by Wanless to give Rovers a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later Wanless was there again to head to ball into the back of the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul on Lincoln’s goalkeeper Walton.

Chances started to come thick and fast for the home side. Gordon caused problems with his pace down the left and Wanless met his low cross with a first time shot, forcing Walton to make an excellent fingertip save to deny him.

Rovers were appealing for a penalty on 30 minutes as Head looked to be tripped in the area before releasing his shot but the referee waved away the protests.

The home side had another goal controversially disallowed as Brown met Carberry’s cross and beat the keeper, this time the linesman flagged for offside.

Despite being only one goal in it, Rovers dominated the first half.

Rovers continued to threaten in the second half and on 51 minutes a Davies corner fell to Brown on the edge of the area. The defender hit a first time volley and a slight deflection helped it past the Lincoln keeper to make it 2-0.

Jack McKay went close with a free kick from 25 yards, forcing Walton to make an acrobatic save. Head also saw his shot go inches wide of the post after being set up in the area by Gordon.

Parkin almost rounded off a perfect afternoon for the youngsters, as he fired a fierce shot from the edge of the area which had Walton beaten, but it went just wide.

The Rovers defence looked solid and were never troubled by the visitors.

Despite dominating possession, the home side couldn’t add a third and the referee blew for full time to see Paul Stancliffe’s side come out 2-0 winners.
