Coppinger: 12 hours to kick off

Stand-in Captain, James Coppinger has called on the Rovers front line – himself included – to do the business when Chesterfield visit Keepmoat Stadium later today.

Coppinger, who is donning the armband in the absence of Rob Jones, says he hopes to turn the disappointment of a 0-0 draw with Crawley in to a positive.

“Every game is important but obviously building on Tuesday night and trying to get some better end product and goals is needed,” began the 33 year old.

“Teams are going to come and make it hard for us with two banks of four and we've got to break them down and I thought we did okay on Tuesday night to create chances put just couldn’t put them away.

“It will be interesting to see Chesterfield's approach on the game. We can only worry about ourselves though because if we put out a similar performance to Tuesday - albeit with better finishing - then I think we're in with a chance.”

Saturday could potentially see the return to the Keepmoat of former defender Sam Hird, who spent five years in South Yorkshire with Rovers.

“Sam did really well when he was here and he was a great addition to the squad. it's always nice to see people go away and do well and it will be good to see him back at the Keepmoat but hopefully not on the winning side,” Coppinger said.

“They've scored a lot of goals though so we need to stop them playing while making sure we get back on to the scoring trail and put our chances away.”

Doncaster Rovers v Chesterfield in Sky Bet League One kicks off at 3pm from Keepmoat Stadium. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
