Foundation Friday Feature: Talented rugby league prospect backed by Club Doncaster Foundation
Doncaster born, Leeds Metropolitan University student Sean Richards on Wednesday embarked on his tour of South Africa with Great Britain Rugby League Students
The 22 year-old second-rower, who studies Business Managment was initially selected in a pool of 160 players to play in the Regional University rugby tournament.
After impressing at the Regional Tournament before being called up to the England squad to play in the Four Nations Tournament against Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
Following his performance in the Four Nations, Richards was then selected to play for Great Britain as they take on South Africa in test matches, where they will have matches in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.
In order to participate on the tour, Sean needed to raise £1,500 and the Club Doncaster Foundation have provided part sponsorship in order for Sean to get on the plane to South Africa.
Sean said: “I’m really looking forward to it, it should be a really good experience, I have never done anything like it before and I really can’t wait for it to begin.
“It means an awful lot that the Club Doncaster Foundation are supporting me, I am really thankful to them along with my family and friends and it is great the club from my hometown is doing this for me.
The Club Doncaster Foundation Chief Executive Liam Scully added, “We are delighted to be able to support Sean in his venture to South Africa with the Great Britain Students, it is a tremendous achievement for Sean to have made the squad.
