Paul Dickov reflected on the mixed month of August following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Oldham Athletic at the Keepmoat Stadium.Athletic’s first win of the season, and indeed their first ever league win at Doncaster, ensured that the hosts have yet to record a home maximum this season.
“It was a disappointing performance from us particularly after the level we’ve been at in the last three games and you’ve got to give credit to Oldham because they were better than us,” he said.
“We’ve conceded five goals from set pieces at home and that’s something we’ve got to work on and be better at.
“It’s reigned everyone’s expectations in. We know we’re in a rebuilding phase and we’re going to get days like this.”
Rovers, thus far, have had an inconsistent start winning two league games, drawing one and losing two; in addition to two Capital One Cup wins and Dickov said he was happy to shoulder a portion of the blame for the latest performance.
“We huffed and puffed in the last third and maybe I’ll take some responsibility, in hindsight, because I should have freshened it up a little bit,”
“There are a few lads who’ve had two long away trips and they've put in massive efforts and we just weren’t at our sharpest.”
Rovers’ next game is against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on 13th September.
