PREVIEW: Sheffield United v Doncaster Rovers

6 April 2015

Tuesday 7th April (7:45pm), Bramall Lane, Sky Bet League One.

Doncaster Rovers enter their final South Yorkshire derby of the season looking to salvage some pride. Paul Dickov’s side – who’ve won one game in their last six outings – were left licking their wounds on Friday night as play-off chasing rivals Bradford City put them to the sword.

Rovers find themselves seven points adrift of the play-off zone with seven league games to play but will hope to rely on the history books for good omens.

It’s 32 years since Doncaster lost at Bramall Lane and find themselves unbeaten in their last four outings at the former cricket venue.

January 2009 brought about Rovers only win against the Blades in the Steel City to date, with James O’Connor the unlikely hero in a 1-0 win for Sean O’Driscoll’s men.

More recently, the pair played out a dour 0-0 draw in the 12/13 season on a Tuesday night as Dean Saunders side held firm.

United hold the bragging rights at the moment, having defeated Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium in November courtesy of Jamie Murphy’s wonder strike. Nigel Clough’s men had been looking down the barrel when Paddy McCarthy was shown a red card for his last man challenge in the area.

Harry Forrester stepped up for Rovers but saw his spot kick smartly saved, moments before Murphy’s effort.
