Rugby Takeover Success

26 April 2015

The Club Doncaster Foundation and Doncaster RLFC have been working in unison running training sessions for local clubs throughout the region.

Along with the Foundation team, coaching staff and players from the Dons have visited a number of clubs throughout the Doncaster region, working with all age groups, providing coaching, words of wisdom and advice.

So far the nights have been hugely popular, with over 100 juniors turning out at takeover nights at Bentley ARLFC and Dearne Valley Bulldogs.

Mitch Clark and Pasqualle Dunn have both been in attendance at the takeover nights along with chief executive Carl Hall.

Speaking about the rugby takeover’s academy co-ordinator Sam Parkin said: “We appreciate the clubs allowing us to come in and work with the players, spreading the word of what we are trying to achieve with rugby league within the local area.

“The nights so far have been a huge success, we have had overwhelming support from parents, coaches, players and club officials and we look forward to continuing this.”

Doncaster RLFC chief executive Hall added: “The takeover nights have been brilliant, I loved every minute of being part of it.  I personally take great satisfaction in giving something back to the community and it was great to see the stars of the future in action.”

Juniors at the takeover nights have also been treated to meeting new Dons signing Matt Groat.

Speaking about the experience Groat said: “It is great to get out and meet the young people in Doncaster playing the sport.  To be able to go down to lots of different local rugby clubs is great and to coach the juniors is something that I really enjoy.”
