U18 REPORT: Chesterfield 0-5 Rovers

4 April 2015

A convincing win for the U18's as they keep the title race alive.

Chesterfield U18's  0

Doncaster Rovers U18's  5 (Williamson 13, P. McKay 23, J. McKay 46, Pugh 68, Jarrald OG 75)

This game was supposed to be one of the hardest games of the youth season, but as the final score suggests it was completely the opposite. Goals from Conner Williamson, Paul and Jack McKay, Joe Pugh and a OG by central defender Tom Jarrald gave Doncaster a very unexpected easy three points.

Chesterfield started the game the better of the two side, and it only took them five minutes to test Jack McLaren. The ball came over from the right side via a cross by Holmes, it was met by the head of Beesley but it did not trouble the goalkeeper.

After that early chance, Doncaster started to dominate the Derbyshire side and it was their first chance on goal that opening the scoring. A whipped right-footed cross by Matthew Parkin was met by the head of Kevin Mbuti, he headed it down to Conner Williamson who managed to bundle the ball over the line.

It was 2-0 ten minutes later,  some fantastic individual play by Joe McCormick created some space for himself to pull the ball back to the penalty spot and there was defender and captain Paul McKay to apply the finish.

Chesterfields substitute Curtis Morrison had an amazing chance to half the deficit before the break but he squandered his effort. A cross by Jake Hudson was met by the right foot of Morrison but he put his effort well over the crossbar, it was easier to score than miss.

Half Time: Chesterfield U18's 0-2 Doncaster Rovers U18's

Less than a minute after half time it was three, it was another fantastic cross from Parkin from the right side, Pugh headed the ball into the path of Jack McKay who slotted the ball past the onrushing Parkin in the Chesterfield goal.

Doncaster continued to dominate in this game and they grabbed a fourth on the 68th minute, some grit and determination by Jack McKay as he won the ball back inside the Chesterfield area, he pulled it back to substitute Fixter who crossed a superb ball which was met by the head of Pugh who nestled his header into the bottom right corner.

The rout was completed in bizarre fashion, a long ball over the top from goalkeeper Jack McLaren was flicked on by the head of Pugh, goalkeeper Parkin came rushing out of his goal but defender Tom Jarrald decided instead of leaving the ball to Parkin he would try and clear it himself.

It did not end well, the central defender ended up making a hash of his clearance and the ball ended up lobbing the goalkeeper, who was understandably annoyed due to his instructions being ignored.

A very impressive performance by a team who are fighting hard to keep the Youth Alliance title race alive.
