Club Captain Confirmed

7 August 2015

Corporal restored as skipper for new season.

Rob Jones has been named Doncaster Rovers club captain for the 2015/16 season, Paul Dickov confirmed at his pre-match press conference.

The Scot was addressing the media prior to the visit of Bury FC on Saturday as he announced the fans favourite had retained the armband.

“Rob Jones is club captain, that’s not changed and it wont change,” said Dickov.

“James Coppinger will be vice captain so if for any reason Rob is not in the team, Copps will take over the captaincy so nothing’s changed there.”

The senior pairing have over 1,000 first team games under their belts with Coppinger alone set to break 450 Rovers appearances at the weekend should he feature against the Shakers.

“It’s the old cliché that you want more than one captain out on the pitch,” said Dickov.

“We believe we’ve got that, especially in the spine of the team with the seniors such as Andy Butler, big Gary (MacKenzie) and Rob, Keegs (Paul Keegan), Chappy (Richard Chaplow), Richie Wellens, Nathan Tyson, Curtis Main and Andy Williams and then you add Copps in there it gives us a lot of experience there and hopefully a lot of leaders as well.”
