Gaffer eager to get going ahead of League One campaign.

Paul Dickov has said that he knows his starting eleven days out from the start of the 2015/16 season.

The Scot oversaw a “very, very competitive” training session on Thursday morning as the race for starting births hots up.

“We’ve got a fully fit squad to pick from which is great, which gives me a little headache. There’s a couple of little niggles but I expect everyone to be ready for Saturday,” said Dickov.

“They’re all flying; training was very, very competitive this morning as they’re all fighting for a place.

“We know our eleven. There have been lots of things come in to making the decision – how they play, how they train, how we go about the Bury game tactically – but in my head I’ve been pretty clear for a while.”

Dickov, who said that he is not anticipating too much further transfer activity, presided over a mid-table finish last season but is under no illusions as to what the expectations are on him, not least from himself.
“I’m a big boy, there are no excuses from me now,” he said.

“I believe massively in the group I’ve got and in what we’re trying to do as a football club – not just on the pitch. The youth system is flourishing and we’ve got some senior pros and a great blend of people.

“We’ve got to believe (in terms of recruitment) that we’re bringing in better than we’ve got but they’ve got to improve us. Some targets you get, some targets you miss out on but I’m not going to go out there and sign someone for the sake of it because you won’t progress if you do that and right now I’m fairly comfortable.”
