PREVIEW: DRFC v Bury FC

5 August 2015

Saturday 8th August 2015 (3pm), Keepmoat Stadium, Sky Bet League One.

Doncaster Rovers get their eagerly anticipated League 1 campaign underway on Saturday when they host newly promoted Bury FC at Keepmoat Stadium.

Both sides have recruited heavily during the summer months with Paul Dickov bringing six players to South Yorkshire – including Thorsten Stuckmann, Gary MacKenzie, Aaron Taylor-Sinclair, Richard Chaplow and Andy Williams.

The Shakers, who finished third in League Two last term, are highly fancied this season (as short as 13/2 for promotion with some bookmakers) to complete a successive promotion following their strong recruitment drive which has seen Clarke’s – Leon and Peter – arrive alongside Jacob Mellis, Danny Pugh and Brighton loanee Christian Walton.

Former Rovers midfielder Dean Furman had been on trial at Gigg Lane too.

It’s Doncaster who’ve had the superior pre-season campaigns though – registering creditable results and performances against Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Sunderland, before succumbing to Wolves 4-3 – though the credibility of a strong pre-season will only count should they prevail against the Lancashire club.

Paul Dickov has a slight selection headache with many options at his disposal. Though Richard Chaplow, Nathan Tyson and Curtis Main have missed sections of the friendly schedule, all should be fit and vying for selection for the arrival of David Flitcroft’s men.
