Ferguson pre-Crewe

11 December 2015

Gaffer weighs up Rovers chances ahead of meeting with Railywaymen.

Darren Ferguson will aim to catch Crewe Alexandra on the hop when his rejuvenated side host the League One strugglers on Saturday.

The Alex haven’t played for a fortnight while Rovers have come from behind in their last two fixtures to register a notable draw away at Coventry and then ensure their passage in to Round 3 of this season’s FA Cup in a banana skin tie at Cambridge.

“It’ll be a more confident Crewe because, as we’ve seen ourselves, when you pick up a couple of wins it picks the belief and confidence up,” said Ferguson.

“They’ve added experience in Ryan Lowe and he’s got a decent partnership with (Marcus) Haber.

“We’ve prepared for the game as we would any other. We know where we feel we can exploit and where their strengths are and it’ll be up to us to play well on the day; that’s the main thing.

“Crewe are a good footballing team with one or two very good footballers, the players are aware of that but we want to keep the run going, the momentum going as there’s a feel good factor about the place and we want to continue.”

Ferguson said that there would be “no excuses” for his side heading in to a game with The Alex, who are second bottom in the league but have won their last two games.

“I know how we’ve prepared, I had a good chat on Tuesday with the players to tell them early days that it’s a different type of game where we’re expected to win by many people and their mentality has to be absolutely spot on; there’s no excuses,” he said.

“We’ve managed to get as much work in to them (the players) as we can.

“We try and keep it entertaining for them and different because you can’t keep doing the same thing otherwise it often gets tedious.

“We are flexible with the sessions we give them. (Nathan) Tyson is fit, he trained today, he’s okay and will be fine, his back just locked up at Cambridge but he’ll be fine. (Richard) Chaplow and (Curtis) Main will both be fine and involved.”
