PREVIEW: Burton v DRFC

18 December 2015

Saturday 19th December 2015 (3pm), Sky Bet League One, Pirelli Stadium.

Rovers head to Burton to face the League One table toppers on Saturday in what will be the eagerly anticipated return of former Brewers boss Nigel Clough.

Clough, most recently in charge at Sheffield United, replaces the popular Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who last week was appointed the permanent manager of Championship Queens Park Rangers, and finds Albion five points clear of the play off places.

The aforementioned play-off places are now well and truly back in the minds of Darren Ferguson’s Rovers who’ve strung together four wins in their last six league outings and set up a date with Stoke City in the third round of the FA Cup.

Their latest exploits bore witness to a stunning turnaround against Crewe Alexandra. Having fallen 2-1 behind in the final minute of normal time, Rovers rallied back with two goals in less than two minutes to steal three points.

Previous meetings between the two clubs have been few and far between, though Doncaster have won on every occasion.

During the Conference Years Rovers did the double over the Brewers in the one and only season (2002/03) that they met.

Since, the clubs have met in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in each of the last two seasons. Rovers ran out comfortable 3-0 winners last season at the Pirelli Stadium courtesy of Nathan Tyson, Harry Forrester and Richie Wellens.

While the game this season ended goalless, Rovers kept their nerve from the resultant penalty shootout to book their place in the next round at Keepmoat Stadium.

TEAM NEWS: Gary MacKenzie will miss out through injury, while the game comes too soon for Dany N’Guessan and Felipe Mattioni. Paul Keegan, Richard Chaplow and Curtis Main all played in Wednesday’s development win over Rotherham.
