PREVIEW: DRFC v Alex

11 December 2015

Saturday 12th December 2015 (3pm), Sky Bet League One, Keepmoat Stadium.

Doncaster Rovers will look to continue their mid-season rejuvenation when they host Crewe Alexandra at Keepmoat Stadium in the penultimate game before Christmas.

Darren Ferguson’s side have taken ten points from the last possible 15 which has seen them rise to mid-table and reignite play-off aspirations.

In their way stand a lowly Crewe side who have won their last two games. The Alex, despite defeating fellow strugglers Oldham and Colchester, still sit second from bottom in the Sky Bet League One table.

Rovers took four points from the Cheshire side last season in games dominated by the large loanee striker Uche Ikpeazu.

Ikpeazu opened the scoring in a 1-1 draw at Gresty Road just over a year ago, with James Coppinger responding for Paul Dickov’s visitors.

The young striker was courted by Rovers and made a switch to South Yorkshire only weeks later on a temporary basis from Watford.

Rovers again fell behind in the return after George Ray tapped home from close range early on but the hosts came back and though Ikpeazu looked to have feathered Dean Furman’s knockdown home, the goal was given to the South African.

Richie Wellens swept home from the edge of the area with the last kick of the game to ensure the three points stayed in South Yorkshire.
