Preview: Latics v DRFC

27 December 2015

Monday 28th December 2015 (3pm), Sky Bet League One, Boundary Park.

Doncaster Rovers cross the Pennines on Monday to face an Oldham side short on match practice; the Latics have played just one league game – a 1-1 draw at Coventry City – in December due to the inclement weather.

Darren Ferguson’s men are looking to cement their place in mid-table of League 1 following on from the Boxing Day loss against local rivals Scunthorpe United.

For David Dunn’s Athletic, currently in the relegation zone, they could be on the verge of exiting a division for the first time in close to twenty years.

Monday will be the 13th meeting  between the two clubs in all competitions across just eight seasons.

Rovers have not lost at Boundary Park in the league since a 4-0 defeat in March 2007 and it has proved to be a relatively happy hunting ground with an FA Cup second round victory last term followed by a stunning comeback in which Rovers trailed 2-0 before goals from Nathan Tyson and James Coppinger rescued an unlikely point.

This season saw the pair play out a 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium under the watchful eyes of respective interim managers Rob Jones and the aforementioned Dunn – who now has the job on a permanent basis. The hosts took the lead midway through the first half when Andy Butler headed home, however Rovers were guilty of letting their lead slip within eight minutes as Jonathan Burn’s header was adjudged to have crossed the line.
