Sunday 6th December 2015 (2pm), FA Cup Second Round, Abbey Stadium.
Doncaster Rovers and Cambridge United cross swords on Sunday when the pair will vie for a place in the third round of this season’s FA Cup and the potentially lucrative draw of a Premier League team.
The South Yorkshire side do have previous against Cambridge in the cup having met at Belle Vue in January 1982 in the third round when Alan Warboy’s winner set up a trip to Carrow Road three weeks later where third tier Rovers would succumb to Norwich City in front of over 17,000 spectators.
The paths of Doncaster and Cambridge have eluded each other for the last decade with the sides having not met since a Football League Trophy second round tie in the 05/06 season.
Dave Penney’s visitors found themselves 2-0 down to the Conference outfit after just over half an hour courtesy of strikes from Michael Morrison and Fola Onibuje.
Towering striker Leo Fortune-West led the Rovers comeback and he scored either side of half time to restore parity. Ritchie Hanlon bagged 12 minutes from time though to send Rovers back up the A1 a little embarrassed at being knocked out by a side two leagues below (It was to be Doncaster’s last defeat in the competition for two years as they won the 2006/07 competition!)
TEAM NEWS: Craig Alcock is eligible to play and may deputise for the injured Felipe. Paul Keegan may make the squad but the game will be too soon for Mitchell Lund, Richard Chaplow, Curtis Main and Rob Jones.
