Foundation Friday - Kicks Partnership Continues

6 February 2015

Club Doncaster Foundation is delighted to have extended the successful collaboration with Edlington Town Council to continue Doncaster Kicks in Edlington.

Kicks aims to increase participation amongst young people in the local area, using the power of Club Doncaster as a driving force and the Town Council has provided increased funding following the success of the programme so far off the back of the initial investment from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

Whilst building popularity, the Club Doncaster Foundation also utilises the programme to tackle anti-social behaviour by reaching out to young people in Edlington, bringing communities together through sport and activities, whilst also improving relationships with the police to help make the local area a better place.

As well as featuring football and boxing sessions, educational workshops also take place to give participants key skills for future job training and employment.

Volunteering projects are also encouraged within the neighbourhood to create a positive, better and friendly environment.

Ron Shinn from the Town Council said: “Edlington Town Council is pleased to be associated with and support the Kicks Programme giving as it does, the opportunity for young people in Edlington to engage in sport and physical activity and interact with professional sports people and players.

“The Council wish to encourage as many young people as possible to take up the opportunity offered by the programme and wish those taking part in matches every success.”

Chief Executive of the Foundation Liam Scully added: “The Kicks programme continues to go from strength to strength, being a great success throughout Doncaster.

“The Foundation continually receives positive feedback from sessions and we are delighted that we are able to make a real difference to the community of Edlington and thank the Council for their continued support.”

Kicks in Edlington takes place at Edlington Victoria Primary School on Friday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm (Age 13-19) and Saturday evenings from 6:00-9:00pm (Age 8-12).
