Foundation Friday: Cup Success for Kicks Participants

20 February 2015

Keepmoat Stadium hosted well attended prestigious tournament.

Last Saturday the Kicks Cup returned to the Keepmoat Stadium as teams from up and down the country came together to take part in the tournament which proved to be a great day for the young people representing their local football teams.

Kicks teams from the likes of Newcastle United, Hull City and Middlesbrough all made the trip to Doncaster, giving the young people who attend Kicks sessions in their area the opportunity to showcase their football skills on a bigger stage.

Sheffield United were the winners of the tournament going on to lift the cup, after being presented with the trophy on the Stadium pitch at half time of Doncaster Rovers' 3-0 victory over Yeovil Town.

Premier League Kicks is the Premier League’s flagship community initiative under their Creating Chances programme. It has a long history of using the power of football and the value of sports participation to help hard-to-reach youngsters in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the community turn their lives around.

By engaging youngsters in constructive activities, including a wide variety of sports, coaching, music and educational and personal development sessions, communities up and down the country have been transformed with impressive sports participation rates and the authorities reporting significant reductions in anti-social behaviour. The scheme has also enabled thousands of youngsters to find routes into education, training and employment.

The Doncaster programme is heavily supported by local funding partners including DMBC, St Leger Homes, Mayor Ros Jones, Parish & Town Councils and brings communities together through sport and activities, improving relationships with the police and rescue services throughout Doncaster to make local areas a better place.

The Club Doncaster Foundation currently run Kicks sessions in Balby, Moorends, Bentley, Dearne Valley and Edlington and you too could take part in tournaments like this one in the future and represent Doncaster Rovers. To find out about Kicks in Doncaster visit www.drfc-community.co.uk
