Doncaster defender reveals Rovers romance.

New Doncaster Rovers signing Andy Butler has said that he doesn’t see any reason for the club to not challenge the League One play off places.

After a shaky start to the season, Butler’s introduction – initially on loan and now permanently – has noticeably steadied the ship.

“I don’t see any reason why we can’t continue going, considering our recent signings,” he said.

“We’re playing well, we’re hard to beat and look solid then have players like Nathan Tyson and Kyle Bennett coming back from injury so we’re in good nick to push on.

“I believe we can get in to the play-offs, we’re not far off Bradford with a game in hand and there’s a lot of games left. Someone has to step up so it could get very interesting.”

The 31 year old has switched from Sheffield United after just six months with the Blades and said that he will look to draw a line under his time at Bramall Lane.

“It just didn’t work out, things happen in football and so I leave there and move on; Doncaster Rovers is what I’m here to do and I want them to go higher,” he said.

“There’s no point in dwelling on the past, what’s done is done, it’s history and I’ve now got a different focus.

“Everyone’s been really welcome so straight away there were no questions asked and the fans seem to have taken to me. The fans, staff, players and manager have been brilliant towards me.

“I’m really pleased (with the deal). I couldn’t be happier; I love playing football and have loved every minute of it so far.”
