Bywater Wants to make Splash

16 January 2015

New signing Stephen has eyes set on South Yorkshire duel.

Doncaster Rovers new signing Stephen Bywater revealed to the club’s official website that he was “excited” to join the club.

The former England U21 international has signed a six month contract with the club and spoke exclusively to Rovers Player.

“Millwall wanted to terminate my contract and I accepted and the manager here obviously needed a goalkeeper as he’s short on numbers in that area and I just spoke to him and he’s such a good bloke, I thought it’d be exciting to join a big club and help them progress,” he said.

“Motivating factors were the manager, he’s done really well and will do really well and I want to be at a club that I think can get to the Championship.

“They shouldn’t be in League One under the manager they’ve got and it’s exciting because they’ve got some good players.”

The 33 year old could be in line to make his debut in the heat of a South Yorkshire battle when Barnsley visit on Saturday; a potential catalyst fixture for a positive second half of the season.

“It’s a good team, that’s got the good basics in place such as a great stadium and I’m excited,” he continued.

“I’m fit as a fiddle; I’ve always prided myself on that and my attitude to work. Hopefully I’ll keep playing for as long as I can. I know Rob Jones, he was at Sheffield Wednesday when we got promoted and he’s said he enjoys it here too.

“Hopefully I’ll bring something to the squad as someone who’s enthusiastic determined and I want success.

“I’m excited for what the future holds in the next six months.”
