Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov this week completed his third signing of the summer with Gary MacKenzie joining the club.
MacKenzie brings a wealth of Championship and League One experience to Doncaster, following spells at Blackpool and MK Dons.
Dickov admitted he was thrilled to be able to bring the central defender to the club.
“I’m delighted, I’ve been speaking to Gary for a few weeks now and I sat down and met him and he is a player we have been aware of for a long time,” said Dickov.
“He is a leader, he is yet another player that we have at the club who knows the division and knows how to get into the top six and stay in there.
“He has been captain of his previous clubs as well and we want to bring proper men into the club and that is certainly what Gary is.
“We need a group that is mentally right, they need to know how to win games ugly, how to get promoted and when you have a little bit of success to sustain it and Gary ticks all of those boxes.
“He has scored a few goals against Doncaster, but I remember going back when he was at MK Dons, as much as his size, his physique and ariel presence that he has, he is also a very good footballer.
“One thing we want to do here is get the ball down and play, he played in MK Dons team for a couple of years that was in the top six and was a main part of that.
“I spoke to Carl Robinson (MK Dons manager) about him and he couldn’t speak highly enough of Gary as a player and more importantly as a person in the dressing room.
“The more leaders I can have at the club, the easier it makes my job for a start, but the more chance you have of success.”
