Pre-season preparations upped with warm weather training.
The Doncaster Rovers first team squad head to Portugal today looking to step up their pre season preparations ahead of the League 1 campaign."It's a great exercise for us out there,” said first team manager Paul Dickov.
“People might think it's a good old jolly up but it's far from that!
“There are three/four sessions a day and it's a great opportunity for me to get the players together and it is a new group of players as well.”
Dickov was speaking after a routine 2-0 win over local non league side Frickley Athletic, which put some more miles in the legs.
“It was typical pre-season game, especially first half we knew Frickley were going to work ever so hard, coming up against a team with professional players,” he said.
“It was about topping up the lads’ fitness levels, I wanted them to be tired coming into this game to see how they reacted.
"I knew the lads would be tired, I've taken a few liberties with them in the few sessions since we've been back but one of the main things we have to be is fit next season and we have to make sure that we are peaking at the right time which is Bury game."
Rovers entertain Nottingham Forest in a pre season friendly at Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday 21st July (7:45pm) – tickets here – in the lead up to the 15/16 season which kicks off against Bury in 27 days time.
