Football for a Fiver!

4 March 2015

Celebrate James Coppinger approaching his 450th appearance for Doncaster Rovers when we play Peterborough United.

We had originally planned to celebrate Rovers legend James Coppinger's actual 450th appearance against Peterborough but due to injury he is now just short of that mark. When we play Peterborough the day will be one where we celebrate Copps and his great achievement and commitment to this Club.

To say a HUGE thank you to all, the Club and James have agreed to reduce the entrance fee for everyone to just £5 (under 11’s £1) when we face Peterborough United on March 14th.

The Club has also agreed with James to donate 50p of the entrance from every adult, senior, young person and disabled ticket to a charity of James' choice.

Coppinger said: “The fans have been brilliant to me since I came here all that time ago, and I am so pleased that the Club are working with me to help thank the fans! Football is expensive these days and to be able to reduce the cost of a ticket to £5 for this game shows me that Doncaster Rovers not only cares about the players, but also about its supporters.

“It is a big year for me this year and I just want the fans to feel, and to be part of it. This game to celebrate me is my chance to say “thanks” and to hopefully pack out Keepmoat Stadium. We want to get 10,000 plus here and we need everyone to help spread the word.

“I want the fans to be part of something special. I want this game and this year to be a celebration more than anything! In this day and age not many players get around the 450-mark full stop, let alone with one Club! To be challenging those great names for the most appearances for Rovers is incredible, it has been a brilliant journey and there’s hopefully much, much more to come.”

"I love Doncaster Rovers, I know how much football means to this town. It’s quite right that we give something back to the fans for supporting the Club and it means that local charities can also benefit. I encourage people to help spread the word and to help pack out this stadium when we face Peterborough in our playoff push. Let’s make the day even more special with a vocal support and hopefully 3 points!”

Marketing and Communications Manager Ryan Murrant said: “This offer for our fans is brilliant and working with James on it has been a breath of fresh air. James has a couple of charities close to his heart and if we can offer our fans a unique price and also help James raise some money for his charities then that supports everything that this Club believes in.

“Our aim is to earn James at least £5,000 for his charity and for that we need an attendance of 10,000. Peterborough have backed the game too so they are likely to travel en mass. It should, and I am sure it will be a great day.

“We will do everything we can as a Club to fill the ground for James’ special day, and we will be asking our supporters to help spread the word. £5 for a game of football is unique and I can’t praise the board and James enough for making this happen.”
