Foundation plays part in successful Troubled Families Initiative

18 March 2015

It has been revealed that Doncaster Council is among the best-performing local authorities in the country, helping families turn their lives around...

The Doncaster Stronger Families programme has provided support to families across the borough to improve their lives.

Doncaster is among the 56 authorities nationwide, who have successfully helped 100% of the families the council agreed to work with as part of the programme to resolve issues around crime, education and employment.

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said: “These figures show we are working hard to help people in our communities who may be struggling with issues including school attendance or finding work.

“This success is due to team work – the council, partners and the families themselves taking part have put a great deal of effort into making it work.”

As part of the innovative approach to providing support for families, Doncaster Council enlisted the help of Club Doncaster Foundation, in partnership with Flying Futures, to deliver a range of targeted interventions to families, including mentoring and activities in the local communities.

Club Doncaster chief executive Liam Scully added: “We are delighted to have been able to play a small part in helping promote Stronger Families in Doncaster and look forward to continuing the successful collaboration in the future.”

Doncaster also came first in the performance table for an additional criteria described as the percentage of families achieving progress to work.
