Chief Scout Appointed

18 May 2015

Former international takes up recruitment role at Rovers and aims to get stuck straight in!

Doncaster Rovers have today appointed Gerry Taggart as the new Chief Scout as the club looks to act swiftly in the transfer market.

The 44 year old, who has international playing experience, will be tasked with determining playing targets on behalf of first team manager Paul Dickov and help Rovers with their recruitment over the vital summer months.

“It’s a big step forward that the club are making and you’ve got to give credit to the board because they’ve backed the manager in creating this role and this shows we’re taking the recruitment of players very seriously,” said Taggart.

“It’s a major step forward in trying to recruit the right sort of players for Doncaster.

“It [recruitment] starts now, it’s ongoing as we speak. I’m not going to go in to too much detail but let’s just say that there are still plenty of players being watched.”

Taggart – who amassed over 600 senior appearances – is a former colleague of Paul Dickov and the Northern Irishman said he can deliver exactly what the Scot wants!

The 44 year old said: “I think a good team is reflected in it's manager and you only have to look at how Paul was as a player to see the type of player that fits Paul’s style and to an extent – my style – as we both played the game in the same way.

“I’ve got a great working relationship with Paul and all of the staff so it’s good that I’m trusted to get on with things, so that helps.”

Dickov said he could not underestimate the importance of getting Taggart on board and he would prove to be a major asset.

“He’s someone I know well and was my assistant at Oldham for two years,” he said.

“We went through the process and had the interviews and it was very close.

“Gerry’s knowledge of going out, watching games and doing team reports – and his experience – means that he knows exactly what type of player I’m after in terms of attitude and ability.

“He’s out watching games all of the time and will be a big, big plus for the club in this coming year.”
