Copps "honoured"

7 May 2015

Evergreen midfielder says club can still achieve while he is still here.

James Coppinger has expressed his gratitude at being awarded the ‘Special Achievement Award’ for 2015.

The 34 year old’s services to Doncaster Rovers were recently recognised at the club’s end of season awards which took place at Keepmoat Stadium but the midfielder said he hoped that the best was still to come.

“It’s a great achievement and I’m thankful for the last eleven years that I’ve been at the club,” he said.

“It’s been a rollercoaster - some ups and downs. More ups than downs it has to be said though so I’m thankful.

“Its great to accept something like this and to be part of a club like this for so long is something that I’m really proud of.

Coppinger is just twenty appearances from breaking the all time appearance record for Doncaster – something he is hoping to surpass next year.

“It’s something that I’m conscious of. 468 is the magic number and hopefully I’ll pass it next season if I keep fit and that starts with a good pre season,” he said.

“To see the club progress in such a short space of time and see where we are now and what we've achieved - and to achieve - is something I’m really proud of.”
