Following an appeal from BBC Radio Sheffield, everyone at Doncaster Rovers Football Club would like to wish Winnie Blagden a very happy 100th birthday!
Born and lived in Sheffield her whole life, 99 year old Winnie turns 100 on 31st May.With no surviving family or contact with the outside world, BBC Radio Sheffield have put out an appeal to make her landmark birthday extra special. As a surprise they have asked for people to send birthday cards, letters or even presents for Winnie if they’re feeling extra generous!
Thousands of people have responded and their original post has gone viral, having been seen by nearly three million people. Winnie has also made it onto the BBC News Page.
An accessories company has promised to send a vintage china teacup and saucer for her birthday cuppa and cards are being posted from as far afield as the US and Australia!
Cards can be dropped into the BBC Sheffield offices in person, or posted to BBC Radio Sheffield, 54 Shoreham Street, Sheffield, S1 4RS.
Radio Sheffield plans to present her with the cards and gifts on Thursday 28th May.
Rovers have had a replica home shirt printed and personalised especially for Winnie on her special day.
