Rovers Back 'Black Bank'

21 May 2015

Club fully supportive of fans initiative to raise the roof at the Keepmoat.

Doncaster Rovers have given their full backing to the new supporter’s movement ‘Black Bank’ – a group of fans who are to locate themselves in the unreserved seating in the South Stand as of next season.

‘Black Bank’ are solely focussed on creating an atmosphere and rekindling the spirit of Belle Vue, most notably the Popular Stand.

One of the supporters driving the new fan group and aiming to give Rovers fans an identity and a voice – for ninety minutes on a Saturday afternoon, at least – is Wes Grimes. He takes up the story: “I felt that perhaps the club missed a trick when moving from Belle Vue to the Keepmoat. Fans dispersed and there are some people I used to see on the Pop Stand terrace that I haven’t seen since!

“The people who want this to succeed are like minded people who want to enjoy matchdays like they used to be rather than just turn up on a Saturday afternoon and go home.

“None of us are experts in this field but we feel people can relate to what we’re trying to do – even if you’re sat in the East or West Stand, you can still contribute.”

Doncaster Rovers have ensured that ticket prices for next season have stayed low, with Season Tickets for Adults costing just £14.74 per game and just £6.48 per game for 17-21’s.

“The price structure that the club have kept to is unbelievable,” said Wes.

“The Club are listening to what the fans want. We want affordable football and an atmosphere."

“The Club have assisted us with our own bucket collections to get the ball rolling. Flags have been ordered [including the above design] but we're all taken aback by just how many fans fully support the idea. So far we’ve raised over £1000.

“We want to grow naturally and evolve in to an unofficial group of supporters who have one common cause; singing our hearts out for the lads.

“The club have done all they can to help make this achievable but its up to the fans to take it forward and run with it.”
