Academy Manager Paul Wilson speaks following Rovers U18's extra time defeat to Carlisle in the FA Youth Cup

Having defeated Barnsley in the first round, Rovers travelled to Carlisle United in the second round of the FA Youth Cup. With the game level at full time, extra time was needed to decide the winner and it was Carlisle who advanced with a late penalty.

"I’m really, really pleased with the boys’ efforts," Wilson said.

"I thought we were excellent in the first half. In the second half the game got stretched, everyone was getting tired and then we went to extra time.

"We were unfortunate to give away the penalty and to have a goal disallowed is obviously disappointing.

"The lads are gutted and I’m gutted for them, they’ve been first class and they deserved something from the game."

Goalkeeper Louis Jones put in a man of the match performance, pulling off a number of important saves in normal time and Paul Wilson was quick to praise his sides defence.

"Louis [Jones] made two vital saves for us towards the end, he had a very good game. Overall I thought defensively we were really solid and limited them to just two chances.

We had our chances too so I’m quite pleased with the performance just very disappointed not to advance."
