PREVIEW: DRFC v Celtic

6 November 2015

Saturday 7th November 2015 (3pm), Emirates FA Cup Round One, Keepmoat Stadium.

Doncaster Rovers will look to avoid a banana skin when they host Conference North side Stalybridge Celtic at Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

The day will provide the chance for long-serving midfielder James Coppinger to surpass the club’s current appearance record of 468 games which he shares with Colin Douglas.

Coppinger’s feat of 469 games (and counting) since signing from Exeter City in the summer of 2004 will see him as the stand alone record appearance holder for Rovers and is unlikely to be beaten any time soon.

Neither the 34 year old, or Doncaster, possess the greatest record in this cup competition however.

Coppinger only netted his first FA Cup goal last season in the rearranged 4-1 thrashing of Weston-super-Mare. Rovers eventually succumbed in the third round – a stage they have not overcome for five seasons – to Bristol City.

For Celtic, Saturday’s tie will be their SIXTH of this season’s FA Cup. Their route to the first round proper can be seen below:
2nd Qualifying Round – Kendal 2-3 Stalybridge
3rd Qualifying Round – Chasetown 1-1 Stalybridge
3rd Qualifying Round (R) – Stalybridge 2-0 Chasetown
4th Qualifying Round – Stalybridge 1-1 North Ferriby United
4th Qualifying Round (R) – North Ferriby United 0-0 Stalybridge (*Stalybridge win 8-7 on pens)
