Everton loanee on loan move to South Yorkshire.New Doncaster Rovers signing Conor Grant says he can’t wait to get stuck in to life in the football league having made the switch from Premier League Everton to Keepmoat Stadium.
Grant could make his debut on Saturday when Rovers face Colchester United and said he wouldn’t mind replicating the feat of his former Toffees teammate John Lundstram, who won promotion from League 1 with Rovers in 2013 while on loan from Goodison Park.
“John goes down in history because of what he achieved,” the twenty year old said.
“It was brilliant, I hope I can achieve something like that but I’m going to have to take it game by game.
“I’ve been trying to get on loan for a few months now and I’ve been trying to play well for the under 21’s. It just so happened that they watched on Monday and obviously saw something that they like and I appreciate that, I’m thankful for the loan and want to do well for Doncaster.”
The Scouser – who will wear the number 22 shirt during his stay in South Yorkshire – had spent time north of the border with Motherwell having previously been part of Everton’s Europa League squad.
“I know Doncaster is a great club with a massive following so in that respect it was a no brainer in coming,” he said.
“I know that the manager likes to play a good brand of football and a nice attacking style and I think that will suit me so Everton were more than happy to let me come and aid my development.
“It (the Motherwell loan) was a great experience, it was my first loan and something very new for me and a bit of a shock to the system but something that I really enjoyed and this move will hopefully give me a similar opportunity.
“I like to think I’m a ball player, I like to get on the ball and try and make things happen and hopefully I can bring some creativity and work rate to the team.”
