Preview: Shrews v DRFC

19 October 2015

Tuesday 20th October 2015 (7:45pm), Sky Bet League One, Greenhous Meadow.

Doncaster Rovers travel to Shrewsbury in what will be new first team manager, Darren Ferguson’s, first game in charge.

Ferguson will hope that his side can end a winless away run which stretches back to April (when they recorded a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient).

The Scot watched on from the stands on Saturday as Rovers lost 1-0 at home to Yorkshire rivals Bradford City; with Devante Cole’s 1st minute strike settling a nervy derby.

Ferguson has not taken to the dugout since mid-February when he was relieved of his duties as manager of Peterborough United, while Rovers have not faced the Shrews since the 2012/13 season.

That campaign – which saw Rovers claim the League One title – also bore witness to Rovers doing the double over the Shropshire outfit.

A 1-0 win at Keepmoat Stadium – via an early Billy Paynter spot kick – ended a fifteen year absence of meetings.

The pair reconvened at ‘Greenhous Meadow’ and Doncaster’s maiden visit to Gay Meadow’s successor was also to result in a victory. The hosts were reduced to ten men in the first half but provided some stubborn resistance which wasn’t broken until James Husband’s 73rd minute goal. Home striker Tom Eaves looked to have rescued a point with an injury time strike, but there was still time for Rovers flyer Kyle Bennett to net.

TEAM NEWS: Rovers will be able to call upon Andy Butler and James Coppinger despite knocks in Saturday's loss to Bradford.
