Prince’s Trust course comes to Club Doncaster Foundation

Prince’s Trust course comes to Club Doncaster Foundation

The Club Doncaster Foundation has been running its latest new sports programme in collaboration with the Prince’s Trust, giving young people in Doncaster the opportunity to gain an FA coaching badge.

Commencing on the 24th August, 17 lucky potential Education Foundation students embarked on a week-long course- Get Started With Football.

Get Started is a short and inspiring course which can help learners move forward with their careers in sport and have a go at contextualised and fun activities; at the end of the five days, learners achieve a Junior Football Leaders Award which is validated through the Football Association.

During the week, the learners tried their hand at some of the key components involved in delivering a quality football session, the four primary areas were: assisting football activity sessions, an introduction to refereeing and helping with team and different football events.

This gave learners an opportunity to try skills which they hadn’t even considered using before, the refereeing being a popular section on the JFL course.

Speaking about the event, Head of Year 12 Ben Thompson said: “The link with the Prince’s Trust give the Education Foundation the opportunity to put on short courses in a sporting context, which in turn gives candidates the chance to improve their communication skills, skills as a coach and knowledge of the game.

“The Get Started With Football programme has really brought the candidates out of their shells and it has given them a real focus on the career path they’re looking to progress on to.”

All 17 learners passed their JFL award, impressing Club Doncaster and Prince’s Trust staff alike, the successful graduates have all decided to progress their career prospects in the sports sector by taking places on full time courses with Club Doncaster Education Foundation.
