New loan signing eager to get going.Oscar Gobern has thrown his hat in to the ring for selection on Saturday as Rovers make the long trip south to face Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium.
The box to box midfielder arrived on loan from Queens Park Rangers on transfer deadline day and said he is excited by what could be achieved now he’s returned to Yorkshire.
“I’ve had a good pre season down there and I’ve come here ready to play,” said the 24 year old.
“I came up this morning and had my first session with the gaffer and did some team shape and it was good to get to know the lads.
“I was training at QPR and got a call saying Doncaster were interested and I was excited, asked my agent to make it happen and thankfully he did.”
Gobern, who is on loan until January, had joined the R’s from Huddersfield Town in the summer having apparently turned down an interested Paul Dickov; however he did thank the Scot for the opportunity of game time.
“I went to play and it’s not happened for whatever reason but the gaffer here has thankfully given me a chance and platform to play and I just want to show the fans what I can do,” he said.
“I’ve come here to improve my game and, in doing so, help the team. It’s a good team and a good team spirit as I’ve seen this morning. There’s only a few things that need to change for us to push in the right direction and hopefully we’ll get three points on Saturday.
“I have to respect the players and the squad that is there (QPR) and how much money they’ve got. I went there and gave it my best but at this moment in time I’ve come here and want to help Doncaster.
“He (Dickov) has been great and since I’ve come in he’s said enjoy it and you ask any footballer and they’ll tell you that you have to enjoy it and he’s emphasised that. Everyone has been great, from the kit man to the dinner ladies, it’s been top drawer.”
