Defender requests that Rovers wreak havoc.

Gary MacKenzie has called for talk of opposition teams to stop and instead put the focus firmly on Doncaster Rovers.

The Scottish defender spoke prior to the visit of managerless Oldham Athletic on Saturday but said the spotlight should be on how Rovers go about gaining their second win of the season.

“I believe we’ve got players to cause teams more problems than we are doing at the moment. I think we’ve got a good shape and, if you look at the goals we’ve conceded in the last two games, we haven’t been cut open, they’ve been down to individual errors and it’s about eradicating them and learning from them.

“I think it (a 2-0 defeat to Walsall) was very similar to the Gillingham game, I don’t think we deserved to lose. It was a controversial goal (that was conceded) at Gillingham and then to go and defend so well against Walsall for 85 minutes and then shoot yourself in the foot with two basic errors kills you.

“Things just don’t seem to be going for us but you can see that we’re trying hard, defending well and making it difficult for teams.

“We’ve competed well though and luck balances itself out over the season and hopefully it will start turning.”

Saturday’s game against David Dunn’s Latics will be interim Head Coach Rob Jones’ first home game in charge and MacKenzie revealed that the man he has succeeded in the heart of the Rovers defence has a split personality!

“He’s been intense. He’s stated what he wants to try and add and its not a million miles from the things that we were doing, we want to create more chances,” said the Scot.

“He’s actually quite calming as well though and will speak calmly and has said that his door’s open and you can go and speak to him, so perhaps there’s two sides to him which is good.

“They (Oldham) have just been hammered at the weekend and will be looking for a response so it won’t be easy but we’ve got to start talking about us and what we’re going to do to other teams and we’re looking forward to it coming together on Saturday and putting in a good performance.”
