Penney Back on Player

25 September 2015

Former manager set for a commentary duties.

Rovers Player will be bringing live and exclusive coverage of Saturday’s local derby between Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers at Bramall Lane with expert analysis from Rovers favourite Dave Penney.

The former player and manager – who enjoyed eight seasons at Belle Vue – will be on air alongside Tom Biltcliffe from 2:45pm.

Penney, who won consecutive promotions while in charge, insisted ahead of last week’s Oldham game that he won’t be making a return to the Rovers dugout anytime soon, despite rumours linking him with a dramatic return.

“I’m not actively looking to get back in but if someone says “Are you interested?” then we can sit down and have a chat,” said Penney.

“I wouldn’t ever come back here as manager though, that’s for sure. I want people to remember me for what I did. If I came back then it would never be as manager, it might be in a different capacity, you never know.

“It’s great that I can come back and have a chat and a laugh but that could change with results. I’ve seen it happen and things don’t work out. I enjoyed my time here as a player and a manager, eight years with a couple of promotions etc - everyone remembers the cup run but I remember the play-off at Stoke which got us back in the Football League.”

Rovers Player brings you exclusive content, live commentaries – including special guests – and all pre and post match interviews from Keepmoat Stadium for just £4.49 per month!
